Our Story

Building a successful business is hard. Every entrepreneur and business leader eventually discovers that great ideas alone are not enough. Companies grow when the right people connect around the right opportunities and then execute with purpose, discipline, and vision.

That belief is what led Dr. Chris Alexander to launch IDT EXPO, a professional events and business growth platform designed to bring together leaders, investors, innovators, operators, and experienced professionals.

After spending more than 30 years working with companies across the energy, technology, and engineering sectors, Chris saw a consistent pattern. Many businesses struggled not because they lacked talent or innovation, but because they lacked the right relationships, strategy guidance, and marketplace connections necessary to gain momentum.

The challenge was rarely just knowing “what to do.” The real challenge was knowing who to connect with, how to build trust, how to access the right expertise, and how to create opportunities that lead to sustainable growth.

IDT EXPO was created to help bridge that gap.

Built around the principles of Investment, Data, Technology, Experience, and Opportunities, IDT EXPO brings together business owners, investors, innovators, operators, and experienced professionals who believe meaningful relationships still matter. Through conferences, workshops, podcasts, and networking events, the goal is to create an environment where ideas are shared, partnerships are formed, and businesses are strengthened.

At its core, IDT EXPO is about helping people see “what could be.”

History of IDT Expo

IDT EXPO was founded in 2017 with a simple but powerful vision: bring together innovators, investors, operators, and experienced industry professionals in a setting designed to encourage meaningful connections and real business opportunities.

The event was co-founded by Chris Alexander and Wendy Courtright after recognizing a gap in the energy and technology sectors. While innovative technologies were being developed, there was no focused platform where technology providers, end users, and investors could efficiently connect and collaborate.

Originally centered around the pipeline and energy industries,
IDT EXPO quickly became known for its highly interactive workshops, technology showcases, and networking-focused events.

IDT EXPO hosted conferences and workshops in Texas (Houston, Waller, and Magnolia), Calgary, Alberta, and Tulsa, Oklahoma; covering topics such as pipeline integrity, inspection technologies, data analytics, repair / rehabilitation, crack assessment, and emerging technologies.

Today, IDT EXPO is evolving into a broader business and technology platform built around the principles of Investment, Data, and Technology.

While technology remains a central focus, the mission has expanded to help business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators connect, learn, and explore “what could be” in a marketplace being reshaped by automation, Artificial Inteligence, social media, and marketing. Through conferences, podcast conversations, workshops, newsletters, curated content and strategic networking opportunities, IDT EXPO creates an environment where relationships drive innovation and opportunities become reality.
